Post 1-History

Cats are cute lovable creatures that make great pets. They were first domesticated by Egyptians 5,000 years ago. Egyptians worshiped cats and called them gods and goddesses. The Egyptians tamed the cats and brought them over to Italy where they slowly spreaded to the rest of Europe. The short haird domestic cat spread around the world. The long haird cats came from Turkey and Iran and later got popular. The top 3 most popular cats are 1. Persian 2. Main Coon 3. short haired Persian.

There are over five hundred million cats in the world with 33 different breeds. The largest of all  breeds is the Rag doll.  Males weigh from 12 to 20 pounds well females way 10 to 15 pounds. The smallest cat breed is the Singapura. Females way about 6 pounds, males  way about 4 pounds. Over 35,000 kittens are born in America each year.

Cats have 290 bones and 517 muscles in their bodies. The oldest cat that ever lived was named Puss, she died one day after her 36th birthday. There are up to 200 hairs every square millimeter, but the final number of hairs depends on the size of the cat. Each cat has 24 whiskers, 12 on each side of their face. Whiskers help make cats balanced. Cats are not color blind , but they can't see bright colors or tie die. Cats have vertical slits in their eyes, the slit narrows the eye so that light passes through, they don't have to squint.

Did you know that people who have cats live longer and happier lives and have less heart attacks? Cats can do that because they are calm quiet animals who are nice and friendly which makes people calm, nice friendly people . If you are prone to getting heart attacks, I suggest getting a cat.
